presents his Compliments to Posterity. Having by great good Fortune been vouchsafed a Glimpse of the Future, he is pleased to observe that, two hundred and fifty Years after the opening of his Bookshop at the Bible and Sun in St Paul's Churchyard, London, his Name is not forgotten. Indeed, it would seem that in the American Colonies a Prize has been instituted for a Book of special Excellence for little Masters and Misses, which bears the name of the NEWBERY MEDAL.

Mr NEWBERY himself commenced the Trade in Children's Books in 1744 with his LITTLE PRETTY POCKET BOOK for little Master Tommy and Pretty Miss Polly. He later published the HISTORY OF LITTLE GOODY TWO-SHOES and many other Works for the Delight and Instruction of the Young. He is therefore much gratified by the Distinction to be so generously conferred upon him by the Colonials.
He is no less gratified to learn that his Character and Achievements will, in Time to come, have been made known to the Publick by a later Admirer, Mr John Rowe Townsend, in the form of a handsome Volume entitled TRADE & PLUMB-CAKE FOR EVER, HUZZA ; which words formed Mr NEWBERY's own Slogan. This industrious Work is composed in the Happiest of Styles and is adorn'd with many ingenious Woodcuts drawn from Mr N's own Publications.
Persons in the Dominions of her future Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who wish to acquire this Volume should apply to Green Bay Publications, who can be located, by a Mysterious Future Means, at the address of http://www.greenbay.co.uk. Those in the American Colonies should address themselves to the Scarecrow Press, of Lanham, Maryland, to be found by the same Magic at http://www.scarecrowpress.com. The American Edition of Mr Townsend's work is known as JOHN NEWBERY AND HIS BOOKS, but between its covers 'tis the very Same as in England.
