Gumble's Yard
The scene is an industrial city in the North of England. When the
grown-ups walk out on them, Kevin and Sandra, afraid of being taken
into care, do a moonlight flit with their two young cousins to
Gumble's Yard, a row of empty cottages on the canal bank.
But the cottages are not as deserted as they thought. Doubtful-
looking characters come and go, mysterious boxes arrive by canal
barge, and the children are soon caught up in a dangerous chain of
events.
